Illinois Online Sports Betting
Since the June 2020 launch of legal online sports betting, Illinois emerged as one of the nation’s biggest markets. The popularity of mobile sports wagering hit an all-time high in the U.S. during the 2021-2022 football season.
Illinois sportsbooks took more than $7 billion in legal bets in 2021. About 96 percent of those bets were made at the state’s legal online sportsbooks.

Mobile sports betting apps allow you to wager on sports online from anywhere in the state of Illinois. When state lawmakers legalized online sports betting, they included an in-person registration requirement.
That law mandated that in order to sign up for an online sports betting account, players would have to travel to the land-based casino partner of a chosen sportsbook and complete the registration process in person.
The in-person requirement was lifted on March 5, 2022, however. With that law no longer in place, Illinois bettors can register, deposit, bet, and cash out from Illinois legal sportsbooks from anywhere with state borders.
